Urgent prayer needed for 3,000 Burmese refugees threatened with forcible return to Burma
Around 3,000 Karen refugees living in temporary camps along the Thailand-Burma border are being threatened with forcible return to Burma without protection within the next day.
The refugees fled into Thailand in June 2009 after a military offensive by the Burma Army and the pro-regime militia. Around 1,200 refugees fled from Ler Per Her camp and sources say that the area is now riddled with landmines and under the control of pro-regime militia.
There are grave concerns that if the refugees return, they will be subjected to severe human rights abuses, including being used as forced labour and rape by soldiers of the Burma Army.
Your urgent prayer is needed to see breakthrough and protection for these vulnerable people.
Let’s stand together, praying…
- For God’s protection over all the refugees under threat of forced return.
- That God would keep the refugees safe from harm and watch over each member of the group.
- That God would move the hearts and minds of the Thai authorities; that they would continue to provide shelter and protection, not forcing the refugees back to Burma.
- For wisdom and courage for the refugee camp leaders, that they would be able to make the best decisions for the safety of their people.
- For CSW’s high-level political lobbying for the people of Burma; that the minds of influential people would be opened to our message.
- For Partners Relief and Development and Free Burma Rangers working on the ground with refugees on the Burmese border. May God guide them with wisdom and protect their team.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18
