Pray for China1 October is the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. As the anniversary approaches, let us join in prayer for China during the month of September. Twenty per cent of the world’s population lives in China. In recent years China has shot to the world’s attention as a major player in the global economy. Yet, economic progress and subsequent welcome reductions in povertyare not being matched by improvements in human rights. China’s human rights’ record has long been the subject of scrutiny. While progress in some areas has been made, such as a promise by the Communist government to decrease the number of executions, concerns remain for certain basic human rights – religious freedom especially. |
