“The enemy of the people is not those who hold guns in their hands, but those who hold the Bible in their hands.”

Jiang Zemin, General Secretary of the Communist Party (1989-2002) and President of China (1993-2003)

Just imagine...

...if you lived in a country where the government only permitted official, registered churches, which operated under many restrictions.
...if the teaching of under 18s in churches was prohibited.
...if it was illegal to sell Bibles at public bookshops and other public facilities.
...if to follow your faith freely you had to risk your life to belong to an unregistered church.
...if your church meeting was raided, your Bible was confiscated, your pastor arrested and your church was destroyed.

For many unregistered Christians in China, this is reality.

As we mark the one-month countdown to the Olympics, the situation faced by many unregistered Christians in China continues to deteriorate.  Despite assurances from China about improvements in their human rights record, these have not been kept.  Instead, we are witnesses to a pre-Olympic crackdown on unregistered churches and an alarming increase in persecution of unregistered Christians.

We work with partner organisations to highlight the human rights abuses suffered in China, to lobby on behalf of the oppressed and China and to achieve full religious freedom for Chinese Christians.

One Dream: Freedom calls for:

  • A nationwide network of prayer for China this summer.
  • China to recognise that Christian believers simply want freedom to practise their faith, in accordance with international guarantees.

Just imagine if... you could do something to make a difference.
