In 2010, give yourself the experience of a lifetime while raising money for CSW. Last year, nine supporters participated in a sponsored challenge, bringing in nearly £12,000 to help CSW support and speak up for persecuted Christians.
One of these supporters, Disni Jayasuriya from All Souls Langham Place, London, joined friends Philippa Young, Malcolm Houghton, Sarah Carrington and Alex Webb-Peploe to take on the Three Peaks Challenge. Here’s what Disni had to say!
Why did you decide to raise money for CSW?
Our persecuted Church prayer group at All Souls uses a lot of CSW material to pray through issues, so we get to see the energy behind the organisation and wanted to support it.
Why did you decide to do the Three Peaks Challenge?
I had attempted it before but made a bit of a hash of it, so it was kind of unfinished business for me. While we were organising it, I got the impression that this is a really popular challenge. It was a great experience! The whole team had fun so I would recommend it to anyone.
What does the Three Peaks Challenge involve?
It’s basically an endurance challenge. We had to walk up the three highest peaks in Great Britain: Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scaffel Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales. But the trick is to do it in 24 hours
How did you feel after you had completed the challenge?
I felt really grateful because it was so obvious that God did it all. We had a great time, had no injuries, ever ybody was buzzing with a sense of achievement and it was just a great sight to see.
How easy was it to raise funds?
We had a great team! Some of them were able to get a lot of sponsorship from friends and family. But we also had some organised fun events like a pub quiz and a garden party. It was hard work, but everybody in the team donated their talents, time and energy to make it happen. The garden party in particular was a great success – I think we raised well over £1,000 profit on just that event, thanks to some very competent people on our team and our lovely friends who supported us.
Would you encourage other supporters to attempt it next year?
Definitely, especially if you can use it to encourage other Christians and include non-Christian friends and family. It’s a great way to raise funds, make memories, experience God’s power and generally inspire and be inspired.
