Cuba: Catholic dissident held in solitary confinement, barred from religious activities

Caridad Caballero, a member of the Ladies in White, was arrested and imprisoned over the weekend along with her husband and teenage son, in order to prevent the family from attending Sunday morning church services for the fourteenth week in a row. 20/03/2012  


   

CSW offer condolences on passing of Pope Shenouda III

Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) is saddened to learn of the death yesterday of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, the 117th Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of All Africa on the holy Apostolic See of Saint Mark the Evangelist of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. 18/03/2012  


 

Vietnam: eight Hmong sentenced following last year’s cult gathering in Dien Bien province

Vietnamese newspapers have reported the sentencing of eight ethnic Hmong men to between two and two and a half years in prison, followed by two years’ house arrest each, following a mass gathering of ethnic Hmong in the northwest province of Dien Bien in May last year. 16/03/2012

At a roundtable with Colombia’s President

At the end of last year, CSW and ed other NGOs were invited to meet with Colombia’s President and a number of high-level Colombian diplomats to raise and discuss human rights concerns in Colombia.
