60 minutes of prayer for Nigeria

23 Sep 2020

Thursday 1 October marks the 60th anniversary of Nigerian independence. This diamond jubilee should be a cause for much celebration, but with daily attacks, abductions and violence devastating innocent lives, there is even more cause for prayer.

CSW is delighted to stand with the International Organisation for Peace and Social Justice in the UK (PSJ UK), collaborating with The Nigerian Chaplaincy in the UK (PSJUK) and other church groups, in calling for a Day of Prayer for Nigeria.

Would you please give Nigeria the gift of your prayers on this important anniversary by joining online for 60 minutes of prayer?

Date: Thursday 1 October 2020

Time: 7pm – 8pm (BST)

You can join in via Zoom, Facebook Live or YouTube Live.

If you're unable to join us for the online event, you can still join us in 60 minutes of prayer!

Simply set aside 60 minutes throughout the course of the day - you could set aside the full hour or in 10 minute slots throughout the day, whichever works best with your daily routine. We've included a prayer and scriptures to guide your prayers:

All-powerful God, we declare that you are sovereign over everything that is happening in Nigeria. Though the seemingly endless violence, can at times be overwhelming,  we know you love Nigeria; that you hold the nation in palm of your hand, and   that you are able to bring peace, healing and reconciliation. Fulfil the promises in Isaiah 53 and bring about a Nigeria that is secure, just and fair, where everyone lives in peace and terror does not come near. We ask especially for you to return Leah Sharibu, the remaining Chibok girls and all other abductees safely to their families.

Lord, we ask for your healing upon the nation of Nigeria and an outpouring of heavenly justice for all those whose lives have been devastated by violence. Arise Lord, and come quickly to save your children from suffering and sorrow. Move in power we pray to bring an end to the daily attacks that continue to cause trauma to so many. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

You will be secure under a government that is just and fair. Your enemies will stay far away. You will leave in peace, and terror will not come near. If any nation comes to fight you, it is not because I sent them. Whoever attacks you will go down in defeat. (Isaiah 53:14-15 NLT)

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! Amos 5:24

Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies. Psalm 138:7
