We believe God uses the power of prayer to bring change

Myanmar has remained a human rights and humanitarian catastrophe since the military seized power five years ago. The regime has attacked civilian targets, such as churches, monasteries and schools.

It has also forcibly closed places worship – in some cases repurposing them as military bases – and forced some ethnic and religious communities to celebrate Christmas and Karen New Year on a different date, under heavy surveillance.

Forced conscription is another concern, compelling many young people to flee the country. The Rohingya, who have been denied citizenship since 1982, have been coerced into military service under false promises of citizenship, only to find themselves trapped in cycles of exploitation and violence.

Yet even in the face of escalating repression, the people of Myanmar continue to resist with extraordinary resilience. We stand with them and pray:

• For all who are internally displaced, seeking safety abroad, or desperately trying to flee forced conscription.
• For the Rohingya and other vulnerable communities without legal status. They are particularly at risk of arrest, human trafficking and exploitation.
• For political prisoners facing inhumane treatment at the hands of prison authorities. Those belonging to ethnic and religious minorities often receive the harshest punishments.
• For governments around the world to impose a global arms embargo, and that this would save civilians from deadly strikes.

Give thanks and pray for the efforts underway to hold Myanmar’s military accountable. There are ongoing genocide proceedings at the International Court of Justice, which has heard powerful testimony from Rohingya survivors
