In late 2015 the militant jihadi group Boko Haram overtook Daesh (Islamic State) as the worlds deadliest terrorist group. Thousands in Nigeria live in fear of attacks from Boko Haram, and the group has started to expand its activities into southern Chad and Cameroon. The attacks have targeted Christians, Muslims who don’t share their ideology and federal government targets such as schools, the police and the military.

Elsewhere in Africa, Christians in Sudan remain under threat from a government that wants to be ‘100% Islamic’, and has launched a crackdown on Christians. Churches have been destroyed, and Christians harassed.

This week, please pray:

• Pray for the Christians in Sudan who face harassment, intimidation and violence;
• Pray for spiritual strength for the congregations of churches in Sudan which have been closed down or demolished;
• Ask God to provide a place for these congregations to meet, even though the government no longer permits the construction of new churches;
• Ask God to give wisdom and discernment to policymakers around the world who deal with religion-related terrorism;
• Pray that Boko Haram would stop its campaign of terror, and God would bring peace to Nigeria;
• Thank God that the UN has re-committed to investigating the appalling human rights situation in Eritrea;
• Pray for protection and safe passage for the thousands of Eritreans who flee their oppressive homeland every month.
