This week marks Pakistan’s National Minorities Day. Pakistan’s religious minorities live in fear- with good reason. Religion is connected to national identity, so people who belong to minority faiths- Christians, Shia Muslims, Ahmadi Muslims, and Hindus- are often a target for violence, discrimination and harassment.

Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are often used to settle personal scores and incite violence. A blasphemy accusation can often resulting a death sentence. Today, please pray that these laws will be repealed, and that God would protect those accused of blasphemy in Pakistan. Please remember Asiya Noreen, better known as Asiya Bibi who was accused of blasphemy and has been in jail since 2010 pray for her health and well-being and that she will be released from prison.

I’m sure you all remember the shocking attacks in Lahore on Easter Sunday earlier this year. Though the eyes of the world have moved from Pakistan, the survivors still live with the consequences of the attack. Let’s pray for the survivors today – that they would know that the world has not forgotten them.

When you go to school, you assume that you’re going to learn facts, not opinions: but, that isn’t guaranteed in Pakistan. Many schools teach history, literature and even science in a way that encourages discrimination against other religions. Today, we’re praying that one day, children in Pakistan would be able to learn without biased teaching.

Seek justice. Encourage the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. (Isaiah 1:17) Join us in praying through this verse for Pakistan today.

Forced marriage and conversion is a real problem for Christian and Hindu girls in Pakistan. The girls are abducted by Muslim men and forced to marry against their will once this happens they automatically become Muslim. Ayesha and Samira are two Christian sisters were taken out of college by their father and a local mullah they were taken to the mosque and forced to marry two Muslim men who they had never seen before. They are now in hiding, please pray for their protection and that they can escape these unlawful marriages.

Loving heavenly Father, we pray that Pakistan would become a nation where people of all faiths can worship freely. Please bring your healing to this divided country and lay your protection over those who live in fear. Amen.
