{"id":34197,"date":"2020-08-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-09T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csw-yeo.1wp.site\/blog\/voices-from-cuba-yoel-suarez-4759\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T22:07:50","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T21:07:50","slug":"voices-from-cuba-yoel-suarez-4759","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/blog\/voices-from-cuba-yoel-suarez-4759\/","title":{"rendered":"Voices from Cuba: Yoel Su\u00e1rez"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 5 February 2020 Yoel Su\u00e1rez was summoned to Siboney Police Station in Havana where he was interrogated for three hours by a state security agent who informed him that he had been declared \u2018regulado.\u2019 The declaration effectively subjects Mr Su\u00e1rez to an indefinite ban on international travel, and is a common tactic used by the Cuban authorities to target individuals who they deem \u2018politically sensitive\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As an independent journalist, Mr Su\u00e1rez has worked with non-state media outlets in Cuba since 2014 and has written extensively about human rights and freedom of religion or belief issues.
