The annual event on the 26 June reminds us that torture is a horrific violation of human rights \u2013 and sadly, we see it all too often when religious freedom is violated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gao Zhisheng is a Chinese Christian human rights lawyer. He\u2019s spent years in and out of prison for his work defending the rights of Christians and other minorities. He was tortured repeatedly: beaten with pistols and electric shock prods, and tied up with plastic bags. On one occasion he was tortured continuously for 48 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week please:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Pray that Gao, who was released from prison last year, will continue to recover physically, mentally and emotionally;<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Thank God that he clearly felt the Lord keeping him alive when he was being severely tortured;<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Pray for his wife and children, that they would be able to support him as he recovers;<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Thank God for Gao\u2019s courageous stand for human rights and his refusal to give up his faith;<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Thank God for organisations which campaign tirelessly against the use of torture;<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Pray that wherever torture occurs, it would be fully investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice;<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Pray that God\u2019s presence would be felt in torture rehabilitation centres throughout the world.<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Next Saturday is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.<\/p>","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":6435,"template":"","regions":[],"class_list":["post-26238","prayer","type-prayer","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/prayer\/26238","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/prayer"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/prayer"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/5"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/prayer\/26238\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":40908,"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/prayer\/26238\/revisions\/40908"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/6435"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=26238"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"regions","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/regions?post=26238"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
