{"id":26721,"date":"2024-10-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csw-yeo.1wp.site\/prayer\/prayer-diary-iran-6328\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T21:58:27","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T20:58:27","slug":"prayer-diary-iran-6328","status":"publish","type":"prayer","link":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/prayer\/prayer-diary-iran-6328\/","title":{"rendered":"Prayer Diary: Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/6a72b5b39957731ff5048b2bb0a5b0cd.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In April this year the Iranian government launched a new campaign to promote stricter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">enforcement of the country\u2019s hijab rules, which dictate that all women must cover<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">their heads in public in accordance with the Islamic Republic\u2019s strict interpretation of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shi\u2019a Islam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reports soon emerged of women being dragged from the streets, detained by<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">security forces, and subjected to violent beatings and insults in detention. The Iranian<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">regime demonstrated once again that citizens are not free to live in a manner that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">corresponds with their beliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Readers will likely remember the story of Zhina \u2018Mahsa\u2019 Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">woman who was arrested, physically assaulted and ultimately killed in September<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2022, because she was deemed to have failed to properly adhere to the dress code of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the majority faith .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mahsa\u2019s death in custody sparked unprecedented nationwide protests, to which the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iranian authorities responded with excessive force.
