{"id":28876,"date":"2018-03-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csw-yeo.1wp.site\/press\/religious-freedom-defender-released-3854\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T18:45:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T17:45:36","slug":"religious-freedom-defender-released-3854","status":"publish","type":"press","link":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/press\/religious-freedom-defender-released-3854\/","title":{"rendered":"Religious Freedom Defender Released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>A prominent Cuban advocate for freedom of religion or belief (FoRB), Leonardo Rodr\u00edguez Alonso, has been released from detention today.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/2018\/03\/02\/presionar\/3852\/article.htm\/\" target=\"_blank\">detained<\/a>on 28 February and held without charge in the Provincial Unit for Investigations in the city of Santa Clara until 2 March. Rodr\u00edguez Alonso had been arrested on his way home to Villa Clara from the town of Caibari\u00e9n, where he was leading meetings with human rights defenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rodr\u00edguez Alonso is a regional coordinator for the Patmos Institute, an independent civil society organization that promotes inter-religious dialogue and FoRB for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anna-Lee Stangl, Americas Team Leader at CSW, said: <b><i>\u201cWe were very happy to learn of the release of Leonardo Rodr\u00edguez Alonso without charge today. We continue to be concerned by the fact that he was arrested and detained for almost two days without any charge.
