{"id":30132,"date":"2026-07-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csw-yeo.1wp.site\/press\/eu-increases-pressure-on-vietnams-human-rights-record-6867\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T19:17:05","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T18:17:05","slug":"eu-increases-pressure-on-vietnams-human-rights-record-6867","status":"publish","type":"press","link":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/press\/eu-increases-pressure-on-vietnams-human-rights-record-6867\/","title":{"rendered":"La UE aumenta la presi\u00f3n sobre el historial de derechos humanos de Vietnam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/31d5765e6ea84bf84920158b1302cfd3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>In a break with recent practice, the EU has issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/eu-vn-human-rights-dialogue-2026-pr_en?s=184\">unilateral statement<\/a> after its latest human rights dialogue with Vietnam, expressing \u2018serious concerns\u2019 regarding political prisoners and reports of transnational repression.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the statement, which was issued on 17 July, the EU said that it had \u2018expressed serious concerns regarding reports of transnational repression [&#8230;] and raised a number of specific cases of political prisoners and human rights defenders\u2019 during the dialogue, which took place in Brussels on 2 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a consultation briefing with civil society organisations ahead of the dialogue, CSW specifically recommended that a unilateral statement be issued, arguing that this allows for greater robustness from the usual joint statements, and is already established practice in the case of the EU-China human rights dialogue. In the latter case, a list of individual cases of victims of human rights violations is also included. CSW called for this to be implemented in next years\u2019 iteration of the Vietnam dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CSW also raised several individual cases with the EU ahead of the dialogue, including that of Montagnard Christians Siu Yu and Siu Dok, who were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/2026\/06\/01\/press\/6816\/article.htm\">detained<\/a> on charges of \u2018undermining national unity\u2019 on 1 June; Cao Dai adherents Tr\u1ea7n Ng\u1ecdc S\u01b0\u01a1ng, Nguyen Ngoc Dien, Nguyen Anh Phung and Tran Thanh Tuyet, who were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/2026\/05\/14\/press\/6802\/article.htm\">arrested<\/a> on accusations of sharing documentation of human rights abuses online; and Y Quynh Bdap, the founder of the Montagnard Stand for Justice (MSFJ) human rights organisation who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/2025\/12\/01\/press\/6686\/article.htm\">extradited<\/a> to Vietnam from Thailand in November 2025 and is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence on spurious terrorism charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CSW\u2019s Senior EU Advocate Jonathan de Leyser said: <b><i>\u2018CSW thanks the EU for taking this important step of issuing a unilateral statement on the human rights dialogue for the first time, which has facilitated a clearer and more accurate description of the details of Vietnam\u2019s human rights violations.
