{"id":46124,"date":"2026-10-02T12:10:31","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/?post_type=press&#038;p=46124"},"modified":"2026-10-02T12:15:33","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:15:33","slug":"christian-influencer-and-her-mother-found-guilty","status":"publish","type":"press","link":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/press\/christian-influencer-and-her-mother-found-guilty\/","title":{"rendered":"Christian influencer and her mother found guilty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A 21-year-old Christian influencer and her mother were declared guilty of violating \u2018the personal and family privacy\u2019 of a government official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/18KD1qiM7j\/\">after recording a Department of State Security (DSE) agent in civilian clothes<\/a> serve a summons at their home in March.\u00a0At least two religious leaders were detained by security officers in Havana in the hours before the trial which took place on 1 October<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zamira Marrero Morgado, president of the People&#8217;s Municipal Tribunal of Havana del Este, sentenced Anna Sof\u00eda Ben\u00edtez Silvente, known online as Anna Bensi, and her mother Caridad Silvente Laffita to two years of house arrest. DSE agent Yoel Leod\u00e1n Rabaza Ramos had demanded a video apology from Ms Ben\u00edtez Silvente and the agent\u2019s lawyer had recommended two years in prison for Ms Ben\u00edtez Silvente and two years under house arrest for Ms Silvente Laffita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pastor Rolando P\u00e9rez Lora, who attempted to accompany the two women to the trial with his wife, was intercepted by a DSE agent wearing a helmet and civilian clothes helmet and two police officers who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1DeNXrdhJM\/\">pushed him to the ground<\/a> before handcuffing him and forcing him into a patrol car. David Espinosa, a youth pastor associated with the Baptist Convention of Western Cuba (CBCO), whose governing board had published a statement of support for the two women on 30 September, and his wife were also detained on the morning of the trial. All were released after the court proceedings had concluded. A number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1Jq9EX8Zjk\/\">independent journalists also reported<\/a> that they were prevented from leaving their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"606\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/CUB-Pastor-Rolando-Perez-Lora-detained-attempting-to-accompany-Anna-Bensi-to-trial-on-1-October-2026-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/CUB-Pastor-Rolando-Perez-Lora-detained-attempting-to-accompany-Anna-Bensi-to-trial-on-1-October-2026-edited.jpg 606w, https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/CUB-Pastor-Rolando-Perez-Lora-detained-attempting-to-accompany-Anna-Bensi-to-trial-on-1-October-2026-edited-300x257.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/CUB-Pastor-Rolando-Perez-Lora-detained-attempting-to-accompany-Anna-Bensi-to-trial-on-1-October-2026-edited-14x12.jpg 14w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 606px) 100vw, 606px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Video footage shows Pastor Rolando P\u00e9rez Lora being forced into a police car.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside the CBCO, three of the other largest registered Protestant denominations in Cuba also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/es\/presionar\/christian-denominations-express-support-for-influencer-and-her-mother\/\">published statements<\/a> expressing solidarity with Ms Ben\u00edtez Silvente and Ms Silvente Laffita on 30 September. On the morning of the trial, crowds gathered in a demonstration of support for the two women <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1Ddjv1LaSq\/\">as they arrived at the municipal tribunal<\/a> in Coj\u00edmar. Between 10am when proceedings were due to begin and 2pm when the two women exited the building, the crowd kept vigil, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/r\/1CeBgmwtGP\/\">chanting, singing and praying<\/a> in a demonstration of solidarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Ms Ben\u00edtez Silvente, witnesses at the trial testified that the DSE agent \u2018felt depressed\u2019 after the video of him serving the summons was circulated on social media. <strong><em>\u2018When the judge asked if I was in agreement with the sentence, I said that I wasn\u2019t even in agreement that I should be here,\u2019 <\/em><\/strong>Ms Ben\u00edtez Silvente said upon leaving the municipal tribunal. <strong><em>\u2018In my view this was unjust. The sentence was unjust, the whole trial was unjust.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CSW\u2019s Director of Advocacy and Americas Team Leader Anna Lee Stangl said: <strong><em>\u2018The decision of the Cuban authorities to proceed with criminal proceedings against Anna Sof\u00eda Ben\u00edtez Silvente and Caridad Silvente Laffita because a State Security agent said that the circulation on social media of his actions, carried out on behalf of the state and aimed at intimidating and silencing these two women, made him feel bad, is a travesty. That they should be found guilty, let alone sentenced to two years under house arrest, is a gross miscarriage of justice. The detentions of Pastor David Espinosa and his wife, and of Pastor Rolando P\u00e9rez Lora adds further injury to these unjust procedures.
