President Morsi’s promise to be a president for all Egyptians is increasingly hard to believe for Egypt’s Coptic community. Many have suffered violent attacks. In some areas, entire families have been forced to flee their homes. Others have been unjustly accused of blasphemy. CSW is keeping international decision-makers informed about this situation, but the Copts of Egypt need your prayer support too.

God, we know that it breaks Your heart to see Your children suffering. We cry out to You today to inspire peace in the hearts of everyone in Egypt whose thoughts are turned towards violence.

This week, please:

• Ask God to intervene in the case of a Coptic priest and his lawyer, who have been threatened by a Muslim lawyer in an ongoing property ownership dispute. Pray that they would not come to any harm despite the death threats, and that the dispute would be resolved amicably.
• Pray for peace and comfort for the families of the victims of the Maspero massacre a year on from this tragic event, when peaceful Muslim and Christian protestors were attacked by security forces. Twenty seven people lost their lives and hundreds were injured.
• Ask God to bring those responsible for the Maspero massacre to justice, particularly, the senior military officials who ordered it but have yet to be brought to justice.
• Pray that President Morsi would keep his promises to protect religious communities and to take decisive action whenever Copts are attacked.
• Lift up to God the Coptic teacher who has been jailed for six years after allegedly posting an offensive picture of the Prophet Mohammed on Facebook. He denies the charge, claiming his account was hacked.
• Pray that the new constitution would enhance equality of citizenship and religious freedom, so that Egypt would one day be known as a haven of tolerance for everyone, regardless of their beliefs.
