Prayer Diary: Vietnam

We continue to receive worrying reports of harassment and intimidation against religious minorities in Vietnam, including Christians, Muslims and Hoa Hao Buddhists. To make matters worse, human rights defenders are also a target this August we marked 600 days since the arrest of Christian human rights lawyer Nguyen Van Dai, who has yet to be put on trial. Join us in praying for Vietnam this week.

You may have already heard of the death of our Special Ambassador, Rev Stuart Windsor, who passed away at his home on 17 September. As tributes and messages poured in, we were reminded again of how special a man Stuart was, with an enormous heart for Gods people and a deep and genuine love of Jesus. Stuart touched so many lives over the last quarter of a century of working for CSW: his loss is sorely felt.

Prayer Diary: IDOP/Red Wednesday

One Month, One Church, One Prayer: This November were joining churches all over world in prayer for religious freedom. This week marks the centre point of this month of prayer and action: not only is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on 19 November, but on 22 November were marking Red Wednesday with Aid to the Church in Need.

Berta Soler is a human rights activist and the leader of the Ladies in White group. Berta exemplifies the courage and perseverance of Cubas human rights activists, church leaders and hundreds of others who face daily harassment just because of what they believe.

2017 has seen the handing down of excessively harsh sentences to at least 14 Christians in Iran for everyday activities such as celebrating Christmas,, having a picnic, or attending a friends wedding. This week, please pray for Iran and this group of Christians in particular.

Alims story is heartbreaking. Imprisoned solely because of his faith, according to the UN, hes a Chinese Christian who has now served eight years of his 15-year prison sentence. And his story isnt unique. Across the country thousands of people from religious minorities experience discrimination, harassment, imprisonment or worse.

Prayer Diary: International Religious Freedom Day

On Friday the world will mark International Religious Freedom Day, so this week wed like to ask you to pray for situations around the globe that need the international community to speak up. Your voice is powerful, whether raised in prayer or action: we saw that in Sudan this year when Reverend Hassan and Mr Abdumawla, two unjustly accused men, were released from prison, and with the release that same week of Li Heping in China.

When the Pakistan tragedy happened we were able to encourage Cecil and the others and discuss the issue. In the aftermath of terror attacks on Pakistani churches, Godfrey from Sri Lanka told us about his friendships with people he met through a project weve been working on in the past few years.

Though the popular perception of the island of Cuba can be of a sunny holiday destination, in reality many ordinary Christians of all denominations face harsh restrictions on their worship and everyday life, because of what they believe. Please join us in praying for them this week.

Prayer Diary: Nigeria

Hundreds of Christians and other religious minorities have been killed in attacks by militia from the Fulani tribe, that is now suspected to have links with the Islamist terror group Boko Haram. Men, women and children are being murdered, their land taken away and their homes destroyed. Weve enclosed a petition to the governor of Kaduna State, one of the worst affected areas. Once youve signed it, join us in praying for Nigeria.

In the last issue of Response we shared with you some of East Asia Team Leader Benedict Rogers hopes for Burma, and the importance of long-term prayer in supporting our work. Weve been working in Burma for a long time and we thank God that he has already answered your prayers in a powerful way. But there is still a long way to go and so we must continue to pray!
