Mexico: Assignment Report

From 6 to 15 March 2017, CSW carried out a fact-finding visit to Mexico City and the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca and Hidalgo, accompanied by a representative of Impulso 18, its partner organisation in Mexico. The main objective of the visit were as follows:

• Interview victims of a variety of violations of freedom of religion or belief (FoRB)
• Evaluate any progress on previous unresolved cases where this human right has been violated, as documented in CSW’s 2015 assignment report1
• Train religious leaders and those belonging to various religions and denominations on FoRB, the protection of this human right as laid out in Mexican law and the constitution, and on documentation of violations of this right.
