Religious organisations are required to register with the state and, since 2013, the government has imposed their own unelected committees on some Presbyterian denominations. Last year the government introduced further restrictions on Christian schools in Khartoum, and continues to arrest and intimidate religious leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><b>Sunday 8 April<\/b><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In September Christian and Muslim parents in Khartoum, the capital, arranged a demonstration to protest a new directive from the Khartoum State Ministry of Education requiring Christian schools to open on Sundays. Pray that this protest would bear fruit and that Christian schools would be allowed to observe their traditional day of worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><b>Monday 9 April<\/b><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last October two leaders of the Sudan Evangelical Presbyterian Church were unjustly convicted of criminal misappropriation and criminal trespass, and required to pay a fine of 500 Sudanese pounds each (approximately GBP57). Please pray that their unjust convictions would be overturned, the charges would be dropped and the church leaders would not have to pay this fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><b>Tuesday 10 April<\/b><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This unjust conviction is the culmination of a long period of government interference in the church\u2019s affairs, which included setting up a committee to oversee the church without the church\u2019s permission. This committee then proceeded to sell off some of their properties to private investors. Today, pray that this illegal committee would be disbanded and that the government would stop interfering in church affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><b>Wednesday 11 April<\/b><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last October we received the worrying news that though the mandate of the UN Independent Expert on Human Rights in Sudan has been renewed, this position could be terminated in the future. Please pray that this position will be renewed until there is genuine and sustained improvement on human rights in Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><b>Thursday 12 April<\/b><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government interference in church affairs has extended to the Sudanese Church of Christ (SCOC). Eight leaders of the church\u2019s Executive Leadership Committee were arrested and charged with trespass for refusing to hand over control of the church to an unelected government-backed committee. Pray for God to protect the church from all interference in their affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><b>Friday 13 April<\/b><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government continues to arrest and intimidate church leaders. On Sunday 22 October 2017, five leaders of the SCOC in Omdurman were arrested after they refused to comply with a police order to suspend their Sunday worship service. Ask God to give strength to the leaders of the SCOC who have been arrested in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><b>Saturday 14 April<\/b><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>Father God, we lift Sudan to you and pray especially for the Sudan Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Sudanese Church of Christ, that are experiencing such severe harassment and hardship. Fill their leaders with courage and their congregations with hope: that despite their current circumstances, you are a God of justice and will work to deliver them.
