{"id":29895,"date":"2024-12-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csw-yeo.1wp.site\/press\/ahmadi-man-killed-in-religiously-motivated-attack-6388\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T19:12:22","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T18:12:22","slug":"ahmadi-man-killed-in-religiously-motivated-attack-6388","status":"publish","type":"press","link":"https:\/\/www.csw.org.uk\/zh\/press\/ahmadi-man-killed-in-religiously-motivated-attack-6388\/","title":{"rendered":"Ahmadi man killed in religiously motivated attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/5b0698e1c76be68848b68a7c7eec78b3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>An Ahmadi man was killed in a religiously motivated attack in Rawalpindi, Punjab Province, Pakistan on 5 December.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the International Human Rights Desk of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the victim Tayyab Ahmad was attacked with an axe by an assailant believed to be in his early 30s who approached Ahmad whilst he was visiting his brother in his shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The attacker told the two brothers that \u2018Qadianis\u2019 \u2013 an anti-Ahmadi slur \u2013 must leave the area before striking Ahmad with the axe. Ahmad is said to have died instantly, and leaves behind a widow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ahmad\u2019s brother, Tahir Ahmad Qamar, had reportedly faced increasing harassment in recent months. Aaj News <a href=\"https:\/\/english.aaj.tv\/news\/330391974\">reported<\/a> that he had recently moved his family out of Rawalpindi due to constant threats, and days before the attack took place extremists had pelted stones at Qamar\u2019s shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pakistan\u2019s Ahmadiyya community is the <a href=\"https:\/\/forbinfull.org\/2021\/04\/19\/criminalised-killed-and-cursed-the-plight-of-pakistans-ahmadiyya-community\/\">most institutionally and constitutionally oppressed<\/a> religious group in the country. Various laws categorise the Ahmadiyya community as \u2018non-Muslims\u2019 and place restrictions on the community, including a 1974 constitutional amendment, and Sections 298-B and C of the penal code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ahmadis are also regularly targeted with violence and hate speech. Ahmad\u2019s murder is the fifth reported religiously motivated killing of an Ahmadi in Pakistan in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CSW\u2019s Founder President Mervyn Thomas said:<b><i> \u2018CSW extends our deepest condolences to the widow and loved ones of Tayyab Ahmad, who is the latest victim of decades of hatred and violence directed towards Pakistan\u2019s Ahmadiyya Community.
