For many Christians around the world Easter is a time of heightened tension as they face an increased risk of being beaten, harassed or arrested. But it is also a time of hope. Not the sort of uncertain hope that depends on our circumstances, but a resurrection, living hope. It’s a hope that is steadfast and certain because of an event that has already happened – Easter.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." 1 Peter 1:3
This week please:
- Pray that those who are facing an uncertain Easter will find hope in the resurrection of Jesus;
- Ask God to protect Christians in the run up to Easter as they may face greater threats;
- Pray that there would be no attacks on churches over the Easter weekend;
- Give thanks for those who have been released from prison since last Easter, and continue to pray for those still unjustly held;
- Pray for peace and hope to reign in northern Nigeria and other places of conflict;
- Pray that, as we remember Jesus’ death, he would comfort those who have lost loved ones because of religiously-motivated violence;
- Thank God for the new birth into a living hope we have through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
