Thank you so much for praying for Egypt faithfully over the years. Though the situation there remains very difficult, we know that your consistent entreaties to God mean so much to those you pray for, and make a significant difference in the lives of those who are suffering. This week, please join us in bringing Egypt to God in prayer once more.
- Sunday 25 February
Today, please pray for the family of Father Samaan Shahata Rizkallah, a Coptic priest who died in October after being attacked by a man wielding a cleaver. Attacks on Christians have been increasing in recent months: please pray for God’s protection over them.
- Monday 26 February
While Father Samaan died of his wounds, the other priest who was with him, Father Beymen Moftah, managed to survive despite being wounded. Please pray that God would speed Father Beymen’s healing, both physically and spiritually, and provide for his church while he recovers.
- Tuesday 27 February
The Coptic (Christian) community faces persecution every day, from attacks on their churches and priests to discrimination in the law. Today, pray that God would watch over Copts and protect them while they worship and go about their daily lives.
- Wednesday 28 February
It’s not just Copts who face discrimination, however: Shi’a Muslims, Baha’i adherents, atheists and others all face different levels of pressure and harassment from the government and other Egyptians just because of what they believe. Please pray today that Egypt would become a country of peace for all its citizens.
- Thursday 1 March
Attacks on various communities often go unpunished or, if the government does respond, it doesn’t go far enough to deliver justice to the survivors. Today, please pray that God would move powerfully in the hearts of those who oversee the justice system.
- Friday 2 March
‘The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.’ Deuteronomy 31:8. Pray this verse over Egypt today.
- Saturday 3 March
Heavenly Father, we pray for all those in Egypt who face intense pressure and harassment every day just because of their faith. Go before them, as you promise in Deuteronomy: watch over their lives and keep them safe from harm. Amen.
