In Vietnam, some new Christians come under pressure not only from the authorities, but even from their own relatives and friends.

Families of new Christians are sometimes encouraged by the authorities to harass the new converts, pressuring them to give up their beliefs. Other times, they pressure them out of fear for their safety.

Christians of all denominations, including Protestants and Catholics, often endure discrimination and violence. Some are told their children will not be able to go to school – simply because of their faith. Some are denied basic services like running water. Some are arrested when they go to church.

We heard reports of police storming church services and attacking the congregation, then refusing to allow the injured to be taken to hospital. Other reports came in of Bible school students being severely beaten in police custody, and mocked for their faith.

New Vietnamese legislation makes it easier for authorities to limit Christian groups’ activities, with official backing for their actions.

This week please:

• Pray for complete healing for Christians who’ve been injured in police attacks;
• Pray for protection for students who continue to attend Bible school despite the dangers;
• Ask God to provide for families who have had their water cut off;
• Pray for police officers who are being pressured to limit the growth of Christianity in their area;
• Pray for children who are being forced out of school because their parents are Christians;
• Ask God to give new Christians the courage to continue their faith even when they’re pressured to give it up;
• Pray for opportunities for them to share their faith with their families and friends.
