Governments of Latin American countries have been staunch supporters of religious freedom in recent years – Brazil and Uruguay in particular have stood up for this human right. In 2012 the Uruguayan Senate overwhelmingly adopted a resolution in support of Pastor Nadarkhani, the Iranian church leader who was sentenced to death. And earlier this year CSW visited Brazil to meet high-ranking politicians and decision makers there. We were asked to give a presentation to the Brazilian Congress on religious freedom around the world, and what Brazil can do to further the cause.

It’s been incredibly encouraging for us to work with governments who are committed to the cause of religious freedom. But we really need your prayers for this work – so far we only have one member of staff who covers this area!

This week please:

• Thank God for the committed support of Latin American governments to religious freedom;
• Pray that they would continue to be bold in speaking out against intolerant regimes;
• Pray that their outspoken work would inspire other governments to take up this cause;
• Pray that our March visit to Brazil would bear fruit as the Brazilian Congress considers our policy recommendations;
• Thank God for the staff member who works tirelessly to write detailed reports and recommendations for Latin America;
• Pray that her work would continue to shine the light of truth and justice into dark places;
• Pray that God would open doors for CSW to work closely with Latin American governments in the future so that we can stand together for religious freedom around the world.
