Happy Easter! We can’t help getting excited: with its themes of freedom, deliverance and justice, Easter is one of our favourite seasons here at CSW. This week, let’s bring before God some situations that reflect the central themes of Easter..

As the story of Easter includes an unfair trial, today, please pray for all those who are currently undergoing unfair trials across the world. Pray that justice and freedom would prevail in all these situations.

In Chile, a spate of church burnings in 2016 means that many Chilean Christians in the affected regions may find it hard to celebrate Easter together. Please pray that they’ll be able to find somewhere safe to worship, and that God would watch over them.

Nine years ago the worst outbreak of anti-Christian violence exploded across Kandhamal state, India, forcing over 50,000 people from their homes and leading to at least 90 deaths. Recently, the Supreme Court of India ordered the re-opening of 315 cases from this incident; let’s give thanks for this and pray it leads to justice for the survivors.

On the theme of justice, many girls in northern Nigeria have been abducted and forcibly married and converted to Islam: their families, desperate to bring them back, are still waiting for justice. Pray for them today.

In Bangladesh the leaders of religious minority communities are targeted by violent extremists: just like the Romans were trying to stamp out Christianity by arresting and executing Jesus. Today, please pray for their protection.

As we celebrate being citizens of Heaven through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, please remember the Rohingya in Burma, who have been stripped of their citizenship. As we go to print, a crisis is unfolding that has seen over 30,000 Rohingya Muslims flee in eight weeks, 20,000 of them in just one weekend. Men, women and children are being killed and their houses burned. The Rohingya desperately need your prayers.

Lord, today we thank you for your great sacrifice for us, reconciling us to you through the death of your son Jesus. We’re so glad to be part of your Heavenly kingdom: please watch over all those who are dispossessed by their governments and are crying out for justice. Amen.
