Imagine having your water cut off because youre a different religion to your neighbours. Thats the reality for many Christians in Mexico, where some community leaders force out those from the minority religion. This week, please join us in praying for Mexico, and the Christians who have had to leave their homes.

Just over a year ago, local authorities in Chiapas State cut off the water to the homes of five Protestant families and the drainage system to another home, when these families refused to contribute to the local Roman Catholic festival. They were told that this would only be ‘solved’ if they ‘cooperated’. Please pray for safety for these families, and the 80 others who were eventually forced to contribute.

Please pray for a Protestant man in the state of Hidalgo, whose water was cut off 13 years ago when he refused to deny his faith. It still hasn’t been restored.

In some cases, cutting off water can escalate into being forced out of the village altogether: in 2015 nine Protestant families had their homes burned down because they wouldn’t renounce their faith. Pray for God to protect them and that they would find a safer place to live.

It’s not just homes and water that get taken away. The children of these families are often kicked out of school, too: and when they’re driven out of their village they can’t complete their education. Today, please pray for all the children in Mexico who want to go to school and can’t because of their faith.

Once displaced, the victims often find it very difficult to get the help they need from the government. Join us in praying today for justice for everyone in Mexico who’s waiting for compensation or a new home.

In August 2016 the US Ambassador At Large for International Religious Freedom visited Mexico and raised religious freedom concerns. This was both unusual and unprecedented, and a very positive step! Please pray that there would be concrete improvements after this visit.

Loving heavenly Father, today we lift the nation of Mexico to you in prayer. We ask you to watch over those who are being intimidated because of their faith and even forced out of their homes: comfort and protect them, we pray, and bring them to somewhere where they can be safe. Amen.
