Burma’s one million Rohingya Muslims are among the most persecuted people in the world. The Burmese government does not recognise them as citizens, meaning that they have very few rights. In Kachin state, Christians suffer terrible human rights abuses, forcing them to leave their homes and become internal refugees.

Burma’s Rohingya face severe restrictions placed on them by the Burmese government, meaning that their only option is often to flee the country. Since 2012 the UN estimates that 130,000 Rohingya have fled Burma. Today, pray that Burma’s Rohingya would be recognised as full citizens by the Burmese government.

Last year the Rohingya came into the media spotlight when boatloads of Rohingya refugees were stranded at sea. In April 2016, more than 21 people, including nine children, died when their boat capsized. Please pray for safety as they undertake these dangerous journeys.

It’s five years since fighting restarted in Kachin state. And, as is always the case, it’s the Kachin people who have suffered most. Even when they seek shelter in camps, they often aren’t given humanitarian aid. Today, please pray for an end to the conflict in Kachin state.

Burma has recently elected a new government, ending decades of an oppressive regime. But there’s a long way to go before the damage of the past is repaired – including the treatment of the Rohingya. Today, let’s pray for the new government of Burma to address the plight of the Rohingya soon.

In some camps in Burma, displaced families can only eat one meal a day because food is in short supply. As you eat your lunch today, please pray that the Kachin families in displacement camps would not go hungry for much longer.

The rainy season is approaching in Burma. This means that Rohingya and Kachin living in camps face the prospect of living with no protection from the storms. Please pray for protection for them today.

Lord, we bring the nation of Burma to you in prayer and thank you for the beginnings of change. We pray that this would continue and that Burma will one day be a nation of peace and freedom for all its citizens, whatever their religion or ethnic background.
