And the perpetrators have become more emboldened…There have been attacks during the lockdown: people were locked in and then the perpetrators come and they attack, without being challenged by anyone. Sunday 13 December

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day. Psalm 91:5

According to Rev Yunusa, ‘the Fulani militia mostly come in the night while the community is sleeping and kill anyone in sight, burn their houses, loot their possessions and even steal their land.’ Pray the verse above over Christian communities across northern and central Nigeria at risk of attack.

Monday 14 December

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! Amos 5:24

At our Breakthrough Prayer event, Rev Yunusa told us, ‘The Nigerian government doesn’t want to acknowledge what is happening in the country. But that doesn’t change the fact of what is happening on the ground.’ Pray that the Nigerian government would take decisive steps to end the violence.

Tuesday 15 December

Pray that the police and army would be resourced and given the authority to combat the threat posed by terrorists and other armed groups.

Wednesday 16 December

He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart. Isaiah 40:11

Over two million Nigerians are displaced by conflict and violence. Since January over 50,000 people have been forced to find refuge in southern Kaduna’s informal Internally Displaced Persons’ camps, or with families far from their homes. Pray the verse above over each of them today.

Thursday 17 December

Give thanks for the churches and organisations, including CSW’s Nigeria office, which are supporting displaced people at a time when their own resources have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friday 18 December

Rev Yunusa shared his hope that, ‘now the international community is beginning to turn its focus to the killings in Nigeria, they would put pressure on our government, speak out more and take action.’ Pray that this hope would become reality.

Saturday 19 December

Lord, we ask for your healing upon the nation of Nigeria and an outpouring of heavenly justice for all those whose lives have been devastated by violence. Arise Lord, and come quickly to save your children from suffering and sorrow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
