Attacks on churches have increased since the Kenyan Army joined other African forces in the fight against Islamist militias in Somalia following the abduction of several foreign tourists on Kenyan soil.

PLEASE PRAY:

• Pray for relationships between religious and ethnic communities in Kenya, in particular ask that any attempts to bring strife would end in failure. Especially remember the Nairobi suburb of Eastleigh that experienced violence in November 2012 after an explosion near the church of St Teresa. Pray that unrelenting peace prevails in that town.
• Thank God for the arrest of two would-be suicide bombers on their way to a planned attack in September 2012. May God cause all such plans to be uncovered and more attacks to be prevented.
• Pray for God’s protection over congregations in Garissa, Eastleigh and Mombasa, areas which have been targeted by Al-Shabaab in the last year.
• Pray for the dozens of people who have been injured by Al-Shabaab sponsored grenade and gun attacks since the Kenyan army’s entry into Somalia. Ask God to bring comfort and healing.
• Pray for the political leaders in Kenya and Nigeria, as they respond to the threat of Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram respectively and for the international community to support them in their fight against international terrorism.
• In March 2013, Kenyans will be voting for a new president, senators, county governors, members of parliament, civic wards and women county representatives. Pray for peaceful elections, and the emergence of competent leaders with integrity at every level.
