Hundreds of Christians and other religious minorities have been killed in attacks by militia from the Fulani tribe, that is now suspected to have links with the Islamist terror group Boko Haram. Men, women and children are being murdered, their land taken away and their homes destroyed. We’ve enclosed a petition to the governor of Kaduna State, one of the worst affected areas. Once you’ve signed it, join us in praying for Nigeria.

On Nigerian Independence Day, please pray that God would move powerfully in the country to bring peace and stability in the face of attacks by Fulani militia and Boko Haram, and a worrying rise in kidnapping. Nigeria faces many challenges: pray that God would preserve and protect its people as they rise to meet them.

In June a coalition of Muslim youth groups issued the Kaduna Declaration, ordering every member of the southeastern Igbo tribe to leave northern Nigeria by 1 October or face the consequences. Pray that God brings these plans to nothing.

Anna was only 22 when she lost her husband in an attack by Fulani militia, and must now raise her children by herself. By signing the petition you’re standing with survivors like Anna: pray for God to provide for her and her family today.

Today, please pray for God’s protection over non-Muslims living in remote areas in northern and central Nigeria. They are incredibly vulnerable and receive insufficient protection from state governments, which often condone and may even facilitate the violence.

Attacks by the Islamist terror group Boko Haram are continuing. In June seven people died in the first attack on a remote village in Borno State, and the survivors had to flee. Shortly afterwards Boko Haram attacked another village in the area killing 14 people, then killed 17 in an attack on the capital, Maiduguri. Please pray for God’s protection over Maiduguri and targeted remote villages in the state.

Today, please ask God to bless the work of our partners CSW-Nigeria. They are doing vital work in often extremely challenging conditions, and with a very limited budget. Please pray that God would provide for them richly.

Heavenly Father, we bring the crises in Nigeria to you. The situation seems overwhelming: so many people are being killed and driven from their homes, while others face kidnap or ethnic cleansing. But we know that you are a God of power and compassion. You can bring these crises to an end. Do so, please, we pray. Amen.
