Over the years weve been working on Burma, weve seen many developments: none more dramatic than the elections in 2015, the first reasonably free elections in 22 years. But while these elections led to a change in government, genuine change will be a slow and lengthy process.
So what does it take to really change a country? We interviewed our East Asia Team Leader, Ben Rogers, in the latest issue of Response to find out. Read the article in Response or online, then pray for Burma with us this week.

Today, please pray for the family of U No Ki, a prominent lawyer and human rights campaigner who was assassinated in January this year. He was a dedicated advocate for freedom of religion and other human rights, and his loss will be sorely felt.

Dumdaw Nawng Lat and Langjaw Gam Seng, two Christians from the Kachin tribe in Burma, went missing just before Christmas 2016 after taking journalists to see a Catholic church that had been damaged in an airstrike by the Burma Army. They were taken into police custody on 22 January 2017. We’re still awaiting news from their hearing – please pray for them today.

Today, please pray for the Rohingya, an ethnic and religious minority in Burma that’s one of the most persecuted people groups in the world. At least 30,000 Rohingya have been forced to flee their homes due to military attacks – and the government has blocked their access to aid. They desperately need your prayers.

We asked Ben what he’s praying for Burma: the first thing he said was that he’d like to see more voices speak up for freedom of religion, especially more Buddhist monks. Join Ben in praying that God would raise up more voices for freedom and justice.

Join Ben today in praying for a movement towards peace between Burma’s ethnic groups and the government. Add your voice to Ben’s in praying for this today.

Finally, Ben told us that he’s praying for Burma’s constitution to be reformed, which is vital for all the changes we’re praying for – especially settlement for the ethnic groups. Please pray for this today.
