One Month, One Church, One Prayer: This November we’re joining churches all over world in prayer for religious freedom. This week marks the centre point of this month of prayer and action: not only is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on 19 November, but on 22 November we’re marking Red Wednesday with Aid to the Church in Need.
- Sunday 19 November
Today is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church: go to www.csw.org.uk/oneprayer and use our prayer written especially for today, standing as one church family with all those who are suffering because of their faith.
- Monday 20 November
We’re focusing our prayers for One Month, One Church, One Prayer on Nigeria – see p.10 for specific prayer points. Today, please pray that all those displaced by the violence of Fulani militia would be able to return to their homes and rebuild their lives.
- Tuesday 21 November
We’re working with our friends at other organisations who support persecuted Christians to partner in prayer this month. And we’re grateful for all that’s being done by our team and others to support those who are persecuted because of their Christian faith. Ask God to bless and honour all of our efforts for justice.
- Wednesday 22 November
Today is Red Wednesday, when churches and public buildings all over the world will light up in red as a sign of solidarity with persecuted Christians. You could wear a red item of clothing today, and every time you notice it, use it as a reminder to pray that persecuted Christians will sense a spirit of encouragement and solidarity. Please pray for all those who are taking part today.
- Thursday 23 November
‘All the believers were one in heart and mind.’ Acts 4:32 Thank God that we are all one Church, and we can unite in prayer for Christians who are persecuted for their faith. Pray through this scripture today.
- Friday 24 November
‘For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.’ 2 Corinthians 5:1 This verse was adopted by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Jigawa, Nigeria after their building was destroyed. The RCCG is one of seven churches that were slated for demolition in Jigawa, and all the churches have been told they will have to relocate. Please pray the congregations will be compensated and given a good location.
- Saturday 25 November
Father God, today we pray as one for the persecuted Church, knowing that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, united by your love for us into one worldwide family. We pray that you will grant strength, courage, and protection to those who love you; guidance and wisdom for when their path seems impossible to tread; and hope for a future where they have the freedom to worship you without fear. Amen.
