The landlocked south-east Asian nation of Laos (official name: the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic) does not receive a great deal of international attention. Very few newspaper pages are given to coverage of the countrys struggle for economic development and its growing environmental problems; even less is known about the situation of religious minorities in Laos today.
