Prayer Diary: Carlos Lamelas

For the final week of our Lent series, were praying for Carlos Lamelas. A church leader in Cuba, Carlos was imprisoned for four months in extremely cramped conditions with very little water. Even after being released, he had to wait five years to get asylum in the US, where he currently lives with his family. This week, please pray for Carlos and for Cuba.

Weve already mentioned the inspirational Michelle Chaudhry, CSWs partner in Pakistan, but this week lets pray specifically for Michelle and the work she does for religious minorities in Pakistan.

This week marks Nowruz, Persian New Year, and in this weeks podcast youll hear from Ladan from Iran, who, after converting to Christianity, began to speak about her faith with others. This sustained her through imprisonment and being forced to leave Iran: but she is determined to share the Gospel with them any way she can. Pray for her this week.

Because many of the people we work with are imprisoned for their beliefs, a lot of our work deals with trials. Sometimes theres a straightforward progression from arrest to trial, verdict and sentencing. Sadly, its not always the case Trials often get delayed or postponed for months or even years. Were praying for everyone caught in this limbo.

Prayer Diary: Women Activists

Religious freedom is a feminist issue. Or rather, its an issue that touches on a lot of the problems that women all over the world face: forced marriage, lack of access to education and jobs, and a whole host of other afflictions! CSW works with some remarkable women to tackle these issues and many more head-on. Lets pray for them this week!

Recently, CSW spoke to Vietnamese activist Quinny. She was jailed for meeting Hoa Hao Buddhists who were experiencing persecution. An atheist herself, she was inspired as a teenager to defend human rights, including religious freedom for all. Lets pray for Quinny and for Vietnam today.

The end of this week marks Chinese New Year, and the end of what has been another year of harassment and uncertainty for many of Chinas human rights defenders. As a new year starts in China, please pray that it would bring with it justice and freedom for all Chinas citizens.
