Prayer Diary: Egypt

Merry Christmas again! No, we havent got the dates mixed up: Coptic Christians celebrate Christmas on 7 January. In Egypt this week, millions of Copts will be gathering to attend church and celebrate the birth of Jesus but they will do so knowing that the year ahead holds a lot of fear and uncertainty.

Chile is one of the newer countries were working in: though human rights are generally protected, there has been a spate of attacks on churches, mainly in the La Araucana region.

As Christmas draws ever closer, its inevitable that we start thinking about gifts! Thats why this week were looking back at the gifts God has given us over the past year: and we think about those who arent expecting anything this year at all.

This week, were rejoicing and giving thanks for all the ways weve seen our prayers answered this year: whether its been the release of someone from prison, an improvement in prison conditions, or a milestone in our work at the United Nations! Each answered prayer is part of making religious freedom a reality.

Prayer Diary: Advent 1: Justice

As Advent begins, lets focus our prayers around the promises of God that were fulfilled in the coming of Jesus in that stable in Bethlehem. Firstly, Christmas gives us a powerful reminder that Jesus came to die for us as an expression of Gods justice. This week, lets pray to a God who loves justice so much he was willing to die for us.

Prayer Diary: Sudan

Sudan has long been a country of focus for our Africa & Middle East Team, but over the past few years the Sudanese authorities have intensified their campaign against religious minorities. A government-sanctioned policy of harassment of religious minorities has taken various forms in the last year, including seizing church property and buildings, forcing foreign Christians to leave the country, and harassing, arresting and imprisoning Christian leaders.

Prayer Diary: Pray Justice

This week were marking the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP), where Christians around the world unite to pray for all the Christians who suffer for their faith. Weve matched Bible verses for you to pray for each case this week: so you can pray for a current CSW case every day!

Prayer Diary: China

While the world watched the G20 summit in China this summer, the place where it was held, Zhejiang, has been the focus of a government crackdown on Christians. Since 2014 the government has been removing crosses from church buildings, demolishing churches, and detaining church leaders. The government says the cross removals are part of a campaign against illegal buildings, but many Christians feel they are being targeted.

Prayer Diary: Real Change for Refugees

The world is witnessing unprecedented numbers of refugees, many of whom are fleeing severe religious freedom violations. So much of the medias focus has been on asking, Where will they go? We believe that to tackle the crisis we need to ask, What made them flee in the first place, and how can we address this? One reason is the increase in violations of religious freedom in many countries. This is the driving force behind our Real Change for Refugees campaign.
