Advocacy in action

CSW’s recent advocacy, campaigning and awareness-raising in the media triggered a tidal wave of action on behalf of Pastor Nadarkhani facing execution in Iran.

Iran executes more prisoners than any nation apart from China. Many members of ethnic minorities are currently on death row.

The recent release of long-term prisoners, for whom CSW has campaigned, has bought great joy. However there is evidence of increased government pressure on all denominations and greater use of short-term arrests.

In the build up to the first stage of elections planned for 28 November, religious minorities in Egypt are in need of our prayers. This year has seen an increase in sectarian violence, with over 44 incidents reported so far, compared with 53 from 2008 to 2010. Then there is the military’s attack of peaceful protestors in early October. The nation is in desperate need of our prayers.

In the week that marks the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, please use the IDOP prayer to pray for freedom for all who suffer persecution and oppression.

Lord, we thank and praise You that South Sudan gained its independence in July, bringing freedom to these people. We ask now that You would prosper this nation with peace, cohesion, good harvests and rapid developments in education and healthcare so that the basic needs of the people can be met.

Human rights defenders

Father we thank You for all those who give their lives to speak bravely for religious freedom and human rights at risk to themselves. Bless them for all that they sacrifice to be voices for freedom.

Influencing decision-makers

Lord, thank You for the opportunities You have given CSW to develop relationships with decision-makers around the world. Thank You for the ways You have used these relationships to bring relief to those suffering persecution.
