Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) is pleased to announce that Jonathan Aitken has been appointed as Honorary President.

As a former Cabinet Minister, author, journalist and graduate in theology, Jonathan brings with him a wealth of experience which will be useful to CSW. Since his widely publicised commitment to his faith in 1999 Jonathan has become an internationally sought after speaker in churches, prisons, board rooms, and at outreach events across the denominational spectrum. He currently enjoys wide recognition and support in the church. In the last few years his reflective writings on the psalms and other autobiographical works have established him as a popular Christian writer.

Jonathan is not new to CSW or to the world of religious liberty. He has served on CSW's Board of Reference for a number of years and spoken at many events and conferences on behalf of the organisation. Jonathan has also taken part in CSW fact-finding visits to China and Laos.

CSW Chief Executive, Mervyn Thomas, says: "As a long time friend and supporter of our work, all of us in the CSW family are thrilled that Jonathan has agreed to become our President and are all looking forward to working with him. For me personally it is a special joy to welcome into the team my old friend and prayer partner of many years standing".

We live at a moment in the 21st century when, astonishingly, the number of people being persecuted for their faith around the world is rising. So there is much to be done in continuing CSW's mission of advocacy as "a voice for the voiceless". I am delighted to be joining CSW's team of experts as we continue this much-needed work".
