The Real Lockdown

As we’ve all missed gathering freely to worship this year, it’s sobering to realise that many have never enjoyed that freedom. And, in fact, the pandemic has made religious minorities in many parts of the world even more vulnerable.

On Easter Sunday 2020, six leaders of Early Rain Church were taken from their homes after government officials learned they were joining an online church service. On another occasion the main speaker, Ran Yunfei, was taken away by police to prevent him from sharing.

These are just two incidents in years of intrusive government surveillance and harassment the church has endured. Following a secret trial on 26 December 2019 their leader, Pastor Wang Yi, was sentenced to nine years in prison, charged with 'inciting subversion' and ‘illegal business operations’.

Today you can choose at least one way to respond to those suffering for their faith around the world – through campaigningprayer, or giving.
