Eritrea

Since Eritrea gained independence in 1991, its government has grown increasingly ruthless. Ten years ago they banned all churches except those belonging to three denominations, forbidding them from meeting together under any circumstances.

Pray for Burma

Ko Jimmy’s energy was evident as he told CSW’s East Asia Team Leader about the human rights work he’s been doing since he was released from prison last year. He’d been imprisoned for his part in leading the pro-democracy movement in 1988, which was viciously suppressed by the government.

On 8 March the world will mark International Women’s Day. On that day, the Ladies in White will be preparing for another Sunday of peaceful protest – and risking imprisonment.

Iran

Colombia

We recently organised a workshop for our Colombian partners to link up with our Peruvian partners and share each other’s experiences. Their staff are often overwhelmed by the trauma they deal with on a daily basis.

Colombia

It’s been many heart-breaking decades of civil war in Colombia, and the flood of violence hasn’t left the Church untouched. Between 25 and 30 church leaders are assassinated every year, simply for taking a stand against the rebels because of their faith. But CSW has been working with the Church in Colombia for years, equipping them to take a stand against what they’ve suffered for so long.

Kenya

Attacks on churches have increased since the Kenyan Army joined other African forces in the fight against Islamist militias in Somalia following the abduction of several foreign tourists on Kenyan soil.

Persecutors

In Matthew 5:44, Jesus said Pray for those who persecute you.’ Obeying this command is absolutely vital not just for those who are experiencing religious persecution, but also for us as we pray for them. So we’d like to encourage you to start this new year the right way: by praying for those who persecute.
