Solidarity Sabbath 2016

On the 20-22 May 2016, we asked churches to set aside some time to stand with Chinese Christians.
We were taking part in the Solidarity Sabbath weekend, which is run by an interfaith group who raise awareness of religious freedom issues around the world. Every year they ask believers around the world to remember religious freedom issues in a particular country, and in 2016 they focused on China.
We’ve made an infographic explaining just one example of how difficult it is to be a Christian in China today – the plight of churches in Zhejiang Province.
Click on the image below to enlarge the infographic or download as a pdf.
The government has targeted Zhejiang churches in a deliberate campaign of removing their crosses or even demolishing their buildings and removals – plus, church leaders and others have been questioned and arrested for opposing the campaign.
Sadly, this is only one area where Christians are facing pressure from the authorities.
This is just one province and one community of Christians in China. Many more people of different religions and beliefs are suffering all across this country simply because of what they believe.
Share our infographic on Twitter and Facebook and stand in solidarity with them!
Write to Chinese Christians who need your encouragement and support! Download our Connect & Encourage booklet here.
Please pray:
- For strength and courage for Pastor Gu Yuese
- That the government would soften their stance on churches in Zhejiang
- For God’s protection over the Christians in Zhejiang
- That people of all faiths would one day be able to feel safe in China
