The Rt. Hon John Bercow MP shared his support for CSW's CRY FREEDOM campaign as it launched today. A staunch advocate for human rights in countries such as Burma and North Korea, he expressed his support for the campaign and the difference he has seen CSW make in the lives of those suffering intense persecution and oppression.
Lending his support to the campaign, he writes:
"I have had the great privilege to work closely with Christian Solidarity Worldwide for almost a decade. During that time I saw the difference they make to the lives of people suffering under intense persecution and oppression.
Before I was Speaker, I travelled with CSW to Burma's borders and heard first-hand, the stories of bestial brutality inflicted on the people by the regime. [In October last year] in London, I met Shin Dong-Hyuk, a young man who was born in a North Korean prison camp, where he endured unspeakable torture and survived horrific conditions. I was greatly impressed by him and the very powerful story he has to tell.
It is for these reasons that I feel it is important to lend my support to CSW's campaign "Cry Freedom" for people suffering under brutal regimes around the world.
We would all like to see an end to the unnecessary suffering in places like Burma and North Korea and it is important that organisations like CSW, get the support they need to end crimes against humanity and secure freedom around the world."
